How We Got Started

West Coast Vending & Food Service, Inc. operates over 2500 vending machines, a premium office coffee service, subsidy/free vending and micro-markets throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. To tell you how we got started, we need to introduce you to Bruce, the man with the entrepreneurial spirit who built WCVFS from one fountain soda vending machine into what it has become today.

In the mid 1950's, young Bruce was earning money pumping gas in the hot California sun. Bruce saw an opportunity provide cold beverages to customers at the gas station. He refurbished a surplus vending machine from the Oakland army base, and setup his first vending machine at that gas station. Listening to his customers and always looking for new opportunities to provide better service, he expanded his services by setting up a coffee vending machine to keep customers warm during the winter months. Those two machines turned into four machines, then six, then, well, you get the picture.

Today, Bruce continues to play an active role in the business, and serves on the Alameda Health System Foundation's Board of Directors since joining in 1996. He is also a member of the 100 Club, which supports the families of fallen police officers and firefighters.

Bruce started out with one vending machine, and a dream based on the philosophy of providing great customer service. To this day WCVFS still operates based on that philosophy. We know you have choices when it comes to service providers, but let us show you what great service is like.
